While you might drink coffee each and every day, International Coffee Day comes but once a year.
International Coffee Day is a global celebration on the 1st of October for coffee lovers to come together to celebrate their love of the beverage, raising awareness for the workforces behind the coffee making process; from coffee bean growers to baristas across the world.
For many of us, our day doesn’t truly start until we’ve had our first sip of the warm, rich flavours. And what better accompaniment than a catch up with friends? There’s no denying that coffee forms a huge part of our daily lives, so it’s only right that there’s an international coffee day to celebrate it!
What’s there to celebrate about a hot beverage? Coffee can energize you, warm you up, refresh you, keep you awake, and even increase your metabolic rate by as much as 11 percent, so you can burn fat as you head into the office, travel mug in hand.
Across the globe, the Japanese have been known to bathe in coffee grounds fermented with pineapple pulp to reduce wrinkles and improve their skin. Closer to home, Italians consider drinking espresso a separate event to meals, and so it’s given its very own time.
It may come as a surprise that International Coffee Day is only a very recent celebration, first launching in Milan at Expo 2015. This worldwide event was founded by the International Coffee Organisation with the aim to bring together exporting and importing governments to fight challenges in the coffee world. This year’s theme is based around the commitment the organisation has “to coffee farmers’ prosperity to reduce the coffee industry’s impact on the environment and mitigate climate change”.
Caffi Cyfle sources it’s coffee beans from local supplier Mug Run in Rhyl. They use sustainable, compostable bags to package their coffee. By using a local supplier, this means your brew will have a much lower carbon footprint than mass produced brands and will support our local economy.
So, when you pop down to Caffi Cyfle, don’t forget to raise your mug of coffee in celebration, whether it be an espresso, latte, iced or flat white.
