World Vegan Day is celebrated on November 1st each year by many countries around the world to recognise how accessible and beneficial a vegan lifestyle is.
This day is not only dedicated to vegans but on World Vegan Day, people take the time to look at the current world situation and raise awareness of many issues that the world is facing regarding our food supply and its impact on the environment. World Vegan Day encourages people to understand why veganism is important as well as an opportunity for people to try out a vegan dish next time they’re eating out.
World Vegan Day originated in England in 1994, when vegan animal rights activist Louise Wallis was looking for a suitable setting to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vegan Society. As President of the Vegan Society, her aim was not only to emphasise the continued existence of a vegan association, but also to draw attention to the fact that the word ‘vegan’ had found its way into the English language.
Even if you aren’t vegan, you can still get involved in World Vegan Day! Why not start by trying vegan food or vegetarian options – you might be surprised by how tasty it is. Maybe you’ll have an option or two to choose to eat to reduce some meat consumption – a large contributor to greenhouse gasses.
At Caffi Cyfle, we have a range of vegan and vegetarian options for you to dip your toe into the world of Veganism. Like our falafel, hummus, grated red cabbage and carrot, spinach – a favourite among some of our staff!
